Copyright Attorneys Providing Copyright Services From The Columbus, Ohio Area
As a copyright attorney, I advise clients on issues including whether they can obtain copyright protection on their creative work and how to complete copyright registration.
How to Obtain Copyright Protection
Copyright protection technically exists as soon as creative work is expressed on a fixed medium. However, to enforce your rights in the work and prevent infringement, you must first register your work. Registration occurs at the US Copyright Office. The time for a copyright registration to process is generally 3-4 months. As a copyright attorney, I am experienced in helping clients register for and obtain copyrights at the US Copyright Office.
Creative Work Eligible for Copyright Protection
Creative work such as fictional stories, books, films, music videos, songs, designs, and even website content are eligible for copyright protection and registration. However, intellectual property that is eligible for patent or trademark protection (business marks, functional inventions etc.) are generally not eligible for copyright protection. Also, content that is not eligible for trade secret protection is not eligible for copyright protection. This means that you cannot obtain a copyright on something that is publicly known or easily or readily ascertainable.
As an attorney, I help clients negotiate and draft licensing agreements for their intellectual property. If you have creative work eligible for copyright protection and want to license your rights for additional income I can help you through this process.
As an attorney, I help clients enforce their copyright rights through infringement litigation. I also help clients who are threatened with infringement by other intellectual property owners. If you need to enforce your copyrights, or if infringement is alleged against you, I can help you.
